Crumbling Cards

Louisville Football has been no stranger to this blog, and here we are again. The cardinal football team has had nothing short of a bumpy ride this year that just continues to get bumpier. The cards are on track to be 2-10 after this season, leading fans, players, and students to express their outrage toward head coach Bobby Petrino.

Louisville’s misfortune this season has also caught the attention of many of their future recruits. Failure to fire Bobby Petrino and set a plan in motion to get the cards on the right track has led to multiple decommits by promising future players.

This definitely spells trouble for Louisville football, and shows that if athletic director Vince Tyra does not step in soon, Bobby Petrino will continue digging a monumental hole for the football program.

As of now, the University of Louisville has the smallest incoming 2019 class of recruits after receiving multiple notices of players recommitting. The 2019 class also now ranks 69th in the country, behind Miami of Ohio and just ahead of Maryland.

Something holding Louisville’s AD Vince Tyra from firing Petrino is the whopping $14 million buyout. That’s right… Bobby Petrino would have to be paid $14 million just to be fired.

The loss of some current Louisville players may spark even more conversation and push to get Petrino out. Fans have taken to twitter to joke about the team’s misfortune and express how upset they are.

On twitter, you can see Louisville decommit tweets left and right. But the number of transfers is also becoming worrisome. Of the first of them to announce a transfer was quarterback Jordan Travis. The most recent was another valuable and decorated player, Russ Yeast.

Louisville players are now not even looking to finish their current season before transferring, due to the reported terrible treatment from Bobby Petrino. News has also circulated of multiple players threatening Vince Tyra that if Bobby is not fired soon, they will transfer as well.

Louisville football has absolutely gone under this season, what happens next will likely have a large impact on the University and its athletic department.

Italian Greyhound… the Ideal Pet?

Greyhounds are commonly known for participating in races and being incredibly fast and agile. As most greyhounds are bred for racing, it is much simpler to add an Italian greyhound to your family. These dogs are just as athletic as their larger counterpart, they are simply just a smaller version.

Italian greyhounds are classified as a “toy” breed and tend to be between 8-11 pounds and 13-15 inches tall. Being so small, they are quite fragile, and can hurt their thin leg bones easily if they are too rambunctious. This being said, IGs are not suitable for homes with small children, they make a perfect companion for small families, families with older children or single people who have time to let them out to run and stretch their legs.

Italian Greyhounds also have a long lifespan of 12-15 years. Their loving and cuddly “couch potato” temperament means that you will have a sweet, cuddly companion for many years. IGs are unique because while they are couch potatoes, they also have tons of energy and love to run around and play.

Along with their incredibly loving personality comes a lot of emotional attachment. These dogs thrive upon socialization and being loved on, so, again, they are suited for people who have lots of time to love on them and introduce them to other people so that they feel lots of love.

Another plus to IGs is their incredibly easy to maintain coats. They have very short hair, so any shedding can hardly even be seen. The only grooming needed is the occasional bath. IGs can get very cold, though, due to being so thin and short-haired. Many owners buy sweaters, such as the one shown above, for the winter months as they can get a little stubborn when  it is cold.

Overall, Italian Greyhounds are sweet-natured and gentle, yet also exceptionally playful and athletic. They make very unique pets and are sure to capture your heart with their loyal and loving personalities.

Here to There

Apps such as Uber and Lyft have become wildly popular in the college scene. Whether it be riding to and from parties, restaurants, or sporting events, students are loving these car ride apps.

Unknown.jpeg

The University of Louisville has recently taken measures to provide rides for students. Previously, the campus police or ULPD provided rides at night to student who needed a safe way home. Now, the Card Cab service has been implemented. The ULPD still provides rides to students from the hours of dusk to 10PM and 4AM to dawn, 7 days a week. Card Cab seats multiple students and is available from 10PM to 4AM, Monday through Saturday.

Pictured: Card Cab vehicles have three rows of seating for multiple-passenger pickups.

One huge advantage to the Card Cab is that it is free. The cab will drive you around campus and surrounding housing complexes, completely free.

Uber and Lyft will typically charge around $4-7 to get across campus and they have all sorts of hidden charges and fees they will hit you with. For example, I had an uber driver charge me $16 on what should have been a $4 ride, because the ride took longer than expected, but HE took the wrong route. Riding with students who know the campus is not only safer but easier.

Card Cab has an app called “Gotcha” that you download that looks very similar to the Uber and Lyft apps, and it is extremely user friendly. One feature I like is that you have to put in your school email to verify you are a student, meaning you will only be riding with students and not random people. All you have to do is go in the app and request a ride, you put in your exact location and destination and someone will show up within minutes.

Having a free night time ride service that is ONLY for students was a great choice by UofL. It not only promotes safety, but makes a bigger effort to maintain sustainability on campus.

Sneaky Skincare

Popular luxury skincare brand Sunday Riley has been under fire recently. On October 15, a former employee of the brand got on the popular website, “Reddit”, to expose Sunday Riley for allegedly mistreating their employees. The post is shown below.

Employees of the Sunday Riley brand were forced to visit Sephora’s website and write fake positive reviews of the brand. Sephora is a major retailer for many high-end makeup, skin, and hair care brands. In an email to Sunday Riley employees, you can see they were asked to write “at least 3”  positive reviews on their new “Saturn” and “Space Race” skin care products.

Sunday Riley has been a very popular skin care line for quite some time, which makes it very interesting that they feel the need to write fake reviews and counteract any negative thing that has ever been said about their products. I have even bought some products myself, but after hearing this news I would rather return the products than use products from a dishonest brand. I know I am not alone in this, which could spell trouble for Sunday Riley’s sales.

Pictured: The email written to Sunday Riley’s employees detailing their instructions on how to create fake reviews that could not be traced back to the company in any way.

Sunday Riley took to Instagram to address this matter in a recent post.

IMG_8065

The brand defended itself by saying they could not have posted all the thousands of reviews they had. Sunday Riley herself has mentioned one of her major brand ethos is transparency. Many people are calling the brand out on social media for being sneaky and dishonest, but every exposing comment is being immediately deleted by Sunday Riley’s team.

Angry customers isn’t all this brand has to worry about, A “persistent online review fraudster” in Italy was recently fined €8,000 ($9,300) and sentenced to nine months in prison for operating a company that sold fake reviews for hotels.

At this point, it seems Sunday Riley has dug her brand into a hole by trying to promote the brand, and now the honesty of Sunday Riley and true quality of their products will always be questioned by consumers.

Beauty Guru Battle

The world of YouTube beauty guru’s has been booming for the past few years. These gurus make videos testing makeup, showing tutorials, and doing all sorts of crazy makeup challenges for their thousands and up to millions of subscribers.

There has been an abundance of drama recently regarding some beauty gurus by the names of Jeffree Star, Manny Gutierrez (Manny MUA), Laura Lee, Nikita Dragun, and Gabriel (Gabby) Zamora.

The group used to be good friends and they participated in multiple YouTube videos alongside each other. Manny even created a line with Jeffree Star’s brand Jeffree Star Cosmetics. An uproar began when the four began separating themselves from Jeffree and creating their own clique. Multiple members of the group even took to social media to scold Jeffree for racist behavior.

After the accusations toward Jeffree, fans searched through Gabby, Nikita, Manny, and Laura’s twitter pages and found racist tweets from their pasts. These tweets began to surface and go viral and the follow and subscriber count for the 4 began to drop and people were labeling them as “CANCELLED”. Typically, when someone is pronounced as cancelled, it means their career is over, etc.

Nikita has basically ignored the accusations and has not mumbled a word about the situation. Gabriel has posted a heartfelt apology video and has partly mended his career. Laura Lee stayed completely quiet from social media for around a month, and fans were beginning to wonder where she was.

IMG_7784

After Laura Lee’s absence, she resurfaced to create an apology video. She received tons of backlash regarding the video and accusations of her crying being ingenuine.

Recently, she deleted her old apology and created a new one, but people still aren’t having it. There are many tweets regarding the situation, many of them stating how she is just (badly) acting to try and salvage her career.

Manny MUA has been completely silent since the situation began and has not spoken out on any of his social media platforms, so it is unclear when or how he will make his return.

The beauty community is cut throat and this recent issue has brought up accusations toward many other YouTubers. It will definitely be interesting to see these gurus next moves to protect their crumbling careers. This just goes to show the internet is forever and things can always be dug up from the past.

Did you know about Dance?

The world of college dance is vast and wide in variety, there are hundreds of college dance teams just in the United States alone. College dancers serve to provide entertainment and school spirit at sporting events and appearances around their campus. Typically, you can recognize a college dance team by their flashy makeup, big hair, and lots of sparkle.

What many people do not see is all of the hard work that these dancers put into their routines, gameday material, and appearance. Most college dancers have trained for many years of their life in multiple styles of dance to be on a college team. College dance teams require vigorous training and being able to have a quick memory and high levels of athleticism. A typical week of a college dancer could include workouts with a trainer, multiple team practices, games, and multiple appearances in the community on top of school work and possibly a job.

Other than pumping up the crowd and providing entertainment on gameday, a college dance team’s main goal is doing well at the national championships each year. Teams can choose between participating in National Dance Association (NDA) nationals or Universal Dance Association (UDA) nationals. Each company provides a national championship experience for college teams, but they occur at different dates and different places. UDA tends to occur in Disney World on February 1-3, while NDA occurs at the Daytona Beach bandshell in Florida on April 3-7.

Pictured (Left to Right): UDA pom and jazz double national champions Ohio State, NDA hip hop and team performance double national champions Louisville Ladybirds, NDA pom and jazz double national champions Texas Tech.

The work put in for a nationals routine is incredibly tough, teams typically learn their routines months before nationals so they have time to perfect them before competition. The ultimate goal at nationals is, of course, to win and receive a big trophy and rings to commemorate accomplishing a huge goal with your team.

A lot more goes in to college dance than people see, most fans who watch the team all year never get to see the team’s true talents that they put on the nationals floor each year. Next time you see your favorite college team’s dance team, consider all of the blood, sweat, and tears they put in to putting on a show for the fans.

Football Fiasco

The University of Louisville athletic program has gone through multiple trials and tribulations over the past few years. This being said, the fans are absolutely begging for something to go right. The football team this season is already traveling on a bumpy road, starting their season with a tough loss to Alabama, and then barely scraping by Indiana State and Western Kentucky University.

Pictured: (Left to right) Jawon Pass, Lamar Jackson, Malik Cunningham

The cardinals football team seems to be going through quite a quarterback controversy after star quarterback Lamar Jackson was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the last NFL draft. Both Jawon “Puma” Pass and Malik Cunningham have been playing the role of quarterback in the last few games to see who is the best fit. On  September 17, head coach Bobby Petrino announced that Cunningham would be the new starting quarterback for the cards, and the fans seem to be pretty hopeful and excited about the replacement.

Many Louisville fans are upset by the team’s performance throughout the season so far, feeling that the team should be beating teams like Indiana State and WKU way easier than they did. Fans are also crying out for coach Petrino to be fired on social media sites. Fans are saying Petrine is not the coach he once was and does not deserve to even finish out this season. The cardinal fans are hungry for a good football team similar to the 2016-17 team which held the Heisman winner.

The cardinal football team heads to Virginia this weekend to face the cavaliers and hopefully pull out another win. The change in the starting quarterback position will hopefully help the cards get the ball rolling earlier in the game and get them geared up to play ACC foes Florida State and Georgia Tech at home in the next few weeks.

Bobby Petrine’s team still has a lot of growing and developing to do. Anxious fans will continue to worry if the cardinals will be good enough this season but the coaching staff really just needs a chance to coach the team and mold them to Louisville football standards.

New on Netflix

Netflix is an incredible source of movies and television series that can be watched instantly. On top of many old classic movies, Netflix also releases “Netflix Originals” which are series and movies made by Netflix.

One of the newest and most popular Netflix Originals is titled “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”. The film “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” is a romance-drama based off of the novel by author Jenny Han. This film has been extremely popular with people in their teens and twenties. The two main characters in this film are Lara Jean Covey, played by Lana Condor, and Peter Kavinsky, played by Noah Centineo. The Covey family consists of their father, Dr. Dan Covey, oldest sister Margot Covey, youngest sister Kitty Covey, and Lara Jean as the middle sister.

The real problem in this film begins when Margot moves away to college and Kitty sees how lonely Lara Jean becomes. Lara Jean has a hat box in her room of letters to all the boys she has loved before, hence the movie title, and Kitty decides to mail them out in hopes that Lara Jean could find a boyfriend. One of the recipients of these letters is Josh Sanderson, Lara Jean’s sister Margot’s ex-boyfriend, so Lara Jean has to come up with a plan to avoid Josh and talking about his letter. Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky are the main focus of this film after they begin a fake relationship to make Peter’s ex-girlfriend, Genevieve, jealous, and to keep Josh Sanderson away to avoid conflict with Margot.

As their fake relationship continues, Peter and Lara Jean begin to show more and more real interest in each other. Lara Jean realizes she wants to be with Peter for real after Josh comes to her house and confesses his love for her. Throughout the film, Genevieve plays the antagonist, constantly trying to cause friction between Peter and Lara Jean. After the high school’s annual ski trip, rumors circulate about Peter and Lara Jean that cause the two of them to not speak. Eventually, Lara Jean finds her hat box that originally held her love letters and finds dozens of letters to her from Peter while the two were fake-dating. After finding Peter’s letters, Lara Jean writes another letter to Peter. She reads this letter aloud to him and the two begin their relationship- for real this time. This movie was a huge success and is one of the most popular movies out on Netflix right now. It is a great representation of Jenny Han’s original book and provides a sweet and touching story about young love.
